Unfinished Landscapes
For my graduation I studied about the unfinished landscapes of Rotterdam. These are often temporal, abandoned parcels at the periphery of the city. Incorporating psychogeography into the research as a method to find and represent those places. In the research I was able to make a distinction between different types of unfinished landscapes: The Wasteland in the City, The In-Between Landscape, The Industrial Landscape, The Sand dunes, The Mini-wasteland, the Ruin and the Ruin in Reverse. Through photography, drawings and writings I make them legible (with their qualities and specificities) for others. We attempt to see these neglected landscapes as negative places in the cities that are dominated by productivity, efficiency and capitalistic angle. The aim of the project and research was to revise this, to show the beauty and importance of such place for a city as Rotterdam.
